Introducing Our Wine Tours in Portugal
Portugal has always had a special place in our hearts and, along with Spain, it’s where we first launched our luxury wine tours back in 2003. Portugal continues to be one of our most popular destinations, and we organize custom-designed Mercedes chauffeured private tours throughout the country (including Madeira and the Azores Islands) for couples, as well as larger groups of friends and family.
The most spectacular wine regions without a doubt are the majestic Douro Valley and the authentic Alentejo. Lisbon also has a number of fabulous wine estates to its north and south in satellite appellations. On the way to Spanish Galicia in the north (Portugal and Galicia are a popular combo, in fact), we love Porto with its romantic wine lodges and the pristine Vinho Verde region. And in the south, the Algarve is a luxury, gourmet hub which also pairs beautifully with Spanish Andalusia.
We design each and every tour for our guests based on their travel preferences, desired pace, and main interests. Visiting premium, beautiful wine estates and tasting delicious wines is the core of what we do. But we also offer an array of other luxurious services, including private cooking classes and market tours with local chefs, visits to historic towns and villages with certified art and architecture guides, artisan cheese and extra virgin olive oil experiences, luxury boat excursions, art tours, and more.
Apart from Portugal’s well-earned Michelin stars and its beautiful grand dining rooms, which we include on our tours, we also take you off the beaten path to local gastronomic treasures—in wine country and beyond. Experience the rare privilege of intimate wine lunches hosted by vineyard owners and winemakers. Be as active or as relaxed as you like; your private, friendly chauffeur will be with you for the duration of your tour in Portugal, and service for all activities is door-to-door. You will sleep very well, staying at the best hotels in the country, many of which are located in gorgeous palaces, charmingly and elegantly converted monasteries, and traditional manor houses.
Enjoy some of these sample itineraries that we have created to inspire you and introduce you to Portugal’s premier wine regions and cultural hotspots. If you are interested in a private tour, get in touch so we can get to work on creating your own bespoke adventure.

What Our Clients Say
Cheryl and Chris Davin, MassachusettsThe quality of the hotels was excellent, particularly Lapa Palace and the Convent hotel in Evora
Vintage House was also lovely. Pacheca was fantastic – good tour, great descriptions of their work, great tasting. The enthusiasm and detail of the owner was one of the highlights of our trip. The real joys of Esporão were the location, the wines and the restaurant. Sintra was gorgeous, Obidos was gorgeous, Evora was gorgeous, the boat ride down the Douro was great. Victor, our driver/guide, did all towns on the tour and he was remarkably good. He gave us great details of the places we were visiting, he knew the answers to 95% of the questions we asked and had reference to find out the other answers while we explored the towns. He did a good job of guiding us, giving us insight and advice, but leaving us alone time to explore the different towns.
Jane Stammers, United KingdomAbsolutely first class service from staff at Cellar Tours especially Genevieve McCarthy
The wineries were very good and the staff were very informative, we got individual attention because the tour contained only the two of us! Can´t praise Fernando our driver guide enough- totally professional, knowledgeable, smartly dressed at all times, punctual, the Mercedes was immaculate and took us to fabulous “off the tourist track” for lunches. I would also like to praise the skipper who took us on the Douro River trip. Due to the possibility of rain he brought a small engined craft and kindly provided us with a bottle of his own port, he was very sweet. Would recommend Cellar Tours as the organisation is excellent and the tour entertaining.”
Sarah Freedman and Andrew Whitley, ConnecticutThanks so much!
Andy and I had a blast in Portugal, and we both agree that our best highlights are from the cellar tours time. We really fell in love with Portugal, its people, its food, and of course the WINE!
Jim, Judy, Joe and Barb, CaliforniaGenevieve, thank you so much for setting this tour up for us, we all had a really great time.
The tour was wonderful and we can’t say enough about Anabela, she was fantastic! Very knowledgeable, informative and a real pleasure to be with. I’m sure you have lots of great guides but she must be one of your best. With so many places in the world that we haven’t been, it’s hard to think about going back to the same place again, but we all want to get back to Portugal again. My only regret about the trip is only being able to bring back 2 bottles of port. Thanks again, hope we can use your service again soon, and please say hello to Anabela for us.
Jeffrey & Laura Karp, ArizonaWe are very happy to tell you and Mario that our vacation was simply wonderful, the best vacation either of us has ever taken
First and foremost, Fernando was an absolute GEM! We both feel that Fernando added something very special to our vacation. From the moment he picked us up at the airport to the moment we had to say goodbye, Fernando was a true professional and a fantastic ambassador for the Portuguese people. We went for the port, but fell in love with the country, the people, the history, the table wine, and the food (Laura is going through Bacalhau withdrawal and we are desperately trying to locate Serra cheese in Arizona!!!). We look forward to working with you again on our next trip to Portugal, hopefully in the next year. Muito obrigado e ate a proxima!
Jane and Henry Meyer, Ohio.We were very happy with all of the organization.
Your providers were great — Diogo, our driver, was terrific and the tour guides in Lisbon, Sintra and Porto were great. The winery in the Douro Valley was absolutely perfect — we couldn’t have had a better experience. Our visit to the port cellar Graham’s was also great. Wineries were all extremely friendly, fun and informative and professional. No negatives. Absolutely we would recommend you for any tour. You planned wonderful events for us, the accommodations were great, everything was utterly seamless. More importantly, you were following up on everything in real time while we were there. That was very much appreciated and really added to our confidence in the entire experience and your organizational skills and abilities.
James & Diana Haynes, New YorkWe felt as if Cellar Tours was concerned at all times about how our tour was progressing and if we were enjoying ourselves.
Fernando, our driver guide, was extremely helpful and always had our best interests at heart. Our time at Esporao could not have been any better. The lunch was absolutely phenomenal. Enough can’t be said about the quality of the food served along with the pairing of the wines chosen. Overall, this was a highlight of the trip. The cruise was a very enjoyable portion of our tour. The break for lunch was enjoyable and the stop at Pacheca was extremely interesting as they explained the various wines made at the Quinta as well as the differences between the various versions of Port wine. We enjoyed Oporto and spent the morning there. It was a marvelous city. We think that the tour was very well organized and was both enjoyable and worth the price.
Louise and Kevin Studd, United KingdomWe enjoyed all of the wineries, but particularly liked Loja de Vinho in Sintra, and Casal Branco
Sofia and her husband Jochen, and Dina their winemaker at Casal Branco, were wonderful, relaxed hosts and great fun, and they clearly love what they do and are fiercely proud of it. Luis our driver looked after us very well. He was thoroughly professional and punctual, and friendly but without ever being intrusive; he probably got used to us dozing in the back of the car in the afternoons after a tasting! The Douro Valley is quite extraordinary and just as beautiful as the photographs suggest. I think our two favourite episodes were the day spent at Casal Branco, and the trip to the Douro Valley. Would recommend Cellar Tours as very efficient and informative at the office end, and all proceeded smoothly and according to plan once we reached Portugal. We felt that we were being looked after at all stages, and that is the personal service that one expects to pay for.
