We have created this luxurious full day tour to include a private guided tour of the Prado followed by a Spanish wine masterclass and exceptional lunch. Your very charming art guide will meet you at your hotel and you will enjoy a guided tour through Madrid´s Hapsburg and Bourbon quarters, from the Opera House and Royal Palace to the Prado Museum. Enroute, learn interesting anecdotes about Madrid´s fascinating history including colorful charactors who have lived or passed through the city such as Ernest Hemingway, Ava Gardner, Pablo Picasso and a host of devilish nobles and kings and queens. You´ll visit Madrid´s oldest square and a secret bakery where an order of nuns sell delicious lemon cookies. Before arriving to the Prado Museun, stop for an aperitif of Vermut on tap or a glass of bubbly, at a traditional tapas bar.
Midmorning, you’ll arrive to the Prado Museum, one of the world’s great art museums. Built in the late 1700's under Charles III (Carlos Tercero) The spectacular Prado Museum houses a simply massive art collection including: Velazquez, Goya, Bosch, Tiziano, Rubens, Brueghel, Fra Angelico, El Greco, Zurbaran, Botticelli and Caravaggio. You could spend an entire day here and not see one tenth of the tremendous collection! After all this culture, you will appreciate some great food and wine! You will carry on to a private Spanish wine tasting with a native English speaking sommelier and a full lunch. You´ll taste an assortment of Spanish tapas such as acorn fed cured Bellota ham (heaven on earth), Spicy Padron peppers from Galicia, and Basque farmhouse cheeses. You´ll taste a range of wines including a zippy white from Rueda, bubbly from Penedès, rich reds from Toro and Ribera del Duero and you´ll finish with some amazing Sherries. 9AM Your private guide will collect you at your hotel. Enjoy a fascinating walking tour through Madrid´s old town.
11AM Your art guide will give lead you through the museum and explain various famous paintings in an entertaining and memorable way such as "Las Meninas" and "The Triumph of Bacchus" by Velazquez, "The Clothed and Nude Maja", "The Third of May, 1808" and "The Wine Harvest" by Goya, and the utterly bizarre and wonderful "Garden of Delights" and "Adoration of the Magi" by Hieronymous Bosch.
1PM Your Spanish Wine Masterclass will commence! Taste six wines from various regions around Spain including Rueda, Ribera del Duero, Toro, Rioja, and Jerez. You´ll begin with a glass of Cava from the Penedès before moving on to whites, reds and sweeties. During your masterclass you´ll have a professional presentation with wine maps and customized notes.
2:30-4PM Convivial Tapas and Pintxos lunch, with a multitude of courses all paired with the wines from your tasting. This is a truly unforgettable experience!
