We have designed this luxurious chauffeured wine tasting weekend to include the best of Barcelona’s sights and eateries, along with a day excursion to the Penedès wine country. Penedès is a fantastic and diverse region where Spain’s bubbly (Cava) is produced as well as high-end still red and white wines. Exceptional wines that you will try on this wine tasting weekend include Torres´ “Mas La Plana”, Parés Baltà´s “Absis”, Albet I Noya´s “Marti” and Agustí Torelló´s “ Krypta” (the best bubbly in Spain, in a gorgeous amphora shaped bottle). You´ll visit boutique wineries and enjoy tours of the vineyards, followed by private VIP tastings.
With your own private art guide and chauffeur you will discover some of Barcelona’s best sights (such as the Gaudi landscaped Parc Guell with its mindboggling mosaics), best markets (like tiny Santa Caterina and the outstanding Boqueria markets), and museums (the very charming Picasso museum). Dining is as important as the wine on our tours and we have selected a mix of contrasting restaurants, from authentic and cozy Paella restaurants to innovative “foodie” hotspots. Traditional dishes you might try include “Zarzuela” (a lusty seafood soup with fish and shellfish), roast vegetables with “Picada” (a thick sauce with almonds, hazelnuts, parsley and garlic), and “Xato” (a traditional salad from the Catalan city of Tarragona, made with Escarola lettuce, anchovies, tuna and Arbequina olives in a vinaigrette of olive oil, Ñora peppers, crushed almonds, and high quality vinegar). And some unforgettable gastronomic experiences are in store for you at mythical restaurants such as Cinc Sentits. This morning you will arrive to Barcelona’s international airport where your own private driver will be waiting for you, to whisk you off to your fabulous hotel by comfortable Mercedes. Arrive to your historic and ultra elegant hotel, located right in the “Eixample” quarter on the Passeig de Gracia, Barcelona’s Rodeo Drive. Settle in to your hotel and find your welcome pack with wine gift, keepsake itinerary and gourmet surprise. You´ll have some free time to have lunch on your own (try a seafood lunch at Botafumeiro or a creative lunch at Hisop, for example), relax, freshen up, etc.
Then this afternoon, your private art guide will pick you up at the hotel and you will enjoy a three-hour walking tour of the Eixample and Barri Gotic. You´ll begin with a walk down the Passeig de Gracia where much of Barcelona’s loveliest architecture is located. You´ll visit Gaudi´s dramatic Casa Batlló, including a visit to the surreal rooftop (don´t forget the camera). Carry on to the medieval quarter, visiting the atmospheric Gothic quarter and 15th century cathedral. Finish your tour with a visit to the Picasso Museum, with your guide explaining the most important pieces and anecdotes about Picasso’s stay in Barcelona. The rest of the afternoon and early evening is yours.
Tonight, we have an outstanding dinner planned for you- a tasting menu with wine pairings at Cinc Sentits, one of our all-time favorite restaurants in Barcelona. Savor dishes like “Arroz a Banda” (with grilled baby squid and saffron infused Alioli sauce), Scallops with Escalivada, Mediterranean Tuna with lemon peel confit, smoked tomato and black olive sea salt, delicious artesian cheeses with creative contrasts and Maresme strawberries paired with almond sorbet. Delicious and unforgettable introduction to Gourmet Barcelona.

Discover the wines of Penedès today! This morning your driver will take you south into the wine country, about a one-hour drive. Your first visit will be to a boutique wine estate such as the fantastic Augustus Forum. Your young, passionate hosts will lead you on a private tour of the property followed by a tasting of six of their wines including Avgvstvs Merlot and Syrah blend, their single varietal Cabernet Franc and their highly lauded Avgvstvs Trajanvs wine (a coupage of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc). You´ll also try their excellent wine vinegars; prepare to be surprised how delicious vinegar can be!
The second wine tour of today will be to one of our favorites such as Parés Baltà, where a very special visit awaits. You´ll tour the vineyards by 4X4, learning all about the organic viticulture they employ and the native Catalan grape varietals. A tasting is up next and you´ll taste a range of polished Cavas and rich, velvety red wines. Superb tour, superb wines, what more could you ask for?
A culinary treat is up next at a gorgeous wine resort in the Penedès that also houses an exciting restaurant, Tibia. You´ll indulge in a five-course tasting menu and receive a special chef’s welcome. Your driver will take you back to Barcelona around 5PM and you´ll enjoy the rest of the evening on your own in Barcelona. For something fun and original, try dinner at the Michelin starred Moo in the Star Trek-like Omm Hotel, highly recommended.

Day Three - Private Art Tour in Barcelona & Lunch at Cna Majo

Today you will have a private art guide as well as driver, to see more of bustling Barcelona. Begin with a walking tour of the Borne neighborhood, our favorite quarter downtown. Your guide will show you the breathtaking Santa Maria del Mar cathedral, recently the focus of the page-turning best seller “Cathedral of the Sea” by Ildefonso Falcones. Then, enjoy a wine aperitif at a cute winebar just in front of the cathedral.
Your driver will then take you and your guide to Parc Guell, Gaudi´s whimsical landscaped park spotted with “Modernista” flourishes like the undulating curves of the mosaiqued benches and some bizarrely carved walkways. Beautiful and interesting place. Next up is a tour of the hills of Montjuic and Tibidabo to take in some of the best views over Barcelona and the Mediterranean Sea.
Continue this fabulous day with a traditional Sunday paella lunch at Can Majo, a gastronomic institution. If the weather is good, you´ll sit outside on the pretty terrace overlooking the sea. A full paella lunch with seafood appetizers and homemade desserts will be organized for you, paired with elite wines. The rest of the afternoon and evening are yours to enjoy on your own.
