My husband said, “…can we take a Cellar Tour of the world?” 🙂 The vehicle was beautiful; Jose was wonderful — charming and personable and readily gave interesting descriptions of the local areas we visited…when we weren’t dozing in the extremely comfortable car between winery tours. The Marques de Riscal Hotel was amazing…a real visual treat. To be surrounded by such a beautiful setting, I didn’t want to close my eyes…except that the accommodations were so comfortable and relaxing! The isolated setting was very peaceful, and the staff cheerful and friendly. Etxebarri restaurant was another gorgeous setting with incredible food. I also wanted to mention what a great resource the Pre Tour information packet was. Would definitely recommend Cellar Tours after this experience!

You absolutely knocked it out of the park! 

I can’t even begin to come up with enough words or descriptions for our time spent in Spain.  Everyone was hospitable and welcoming, the food was fantastic, and the wine was simply to die for.  We have several cases coming our way.  We ate foods we never would have ordered, saw sights we would have otherwise ignored, and met people we will never forget.  We laughed an immeasurable amount of times (which was much needed), napped sufficiently in the Mercedes, and absolutely fell in love with Jose Maria.  Could it get any better? Thank you so much for the work you put into this trip, the small details at each stop, the thoughtful gifts along the way, and the beautiful weather that you held for us.

We had an amazing trip in Rioja wine region of Spain!

From the trek guide to the private tours, and from high-end wineries to family run shops, we appreciated the thought Genevieve put into providing a variety of experiences and how smoothly everything was executed. While it is expensive, it is worth it and we can’t wait to do another trip with Cellar Tours somewhere else in the next few years.

Another fabulous trip!!!

Hello from Florida! I wanted to thank you for another fabulous trip!!! We had an amazing time. The wineries were wonderful, the food filling and quite a gastronomic treat and the various tour guides all exceptional!!! Our last day spent with the Chef and his wife cooking was truly great, they were fabulous hosts!! We all look forward to our next adventure with you wherever that may be, so many wonderful places to explore and wine to be drunk! Wishing you a wonderful and healthy summer.

Your selection of wine companies and specific bodegas were perfect.

We received a wonderful variety of types of wine and visited several sized companies. Our favorite happened to be Mr. Merino’s small bodega and his wine. It was wonderful how the selection of villages we visited met the same variable criteria as the bodegas. And the same can go for the restaurants. But, we both must say that our favorite time “eating” was our night out in San Sebastian with Andres “bar hopping” and tasting the many kinds of pinchos. We also bought on our own several of the special ingredients needed for good Spanish cooking and plan to try to make several of the dishes we ate. It will be interesting to see if we can at least partially duplicate them.

The trip flowed very well

Our driver was always on time; each day was well planned never too rushed. Palacio Samaniego is definitely luxurious! This inn has beautiful grounds, a great restaurant and some very good Scotch!! I also must mention how impressed I was with the beautiful dishes they serve their food on! Absolutely beautiful! At Cupani winery “Martin Sheen” whipped up a salad and served a beef dish that his wife had prepared. This was an absolutely fun experience. He made us feel so very much at home even with the differences in language. A great vibe and good food, excellent wine!

We loved San Sebastián. Probably one of the most beautiful cities we’ve visited. Every day was a wonderful adventure, we have so many lovely memories. This was our second tour with your company. Last year we did Italy, this year Spain. These were both amazing tours. The itinerary, guides, drivers all first class! Meals and accommodations were luxurious!! Cellar Tours is remarkable; from the very beginning when we start to plan our tour with them; we know we are in excellent hands.

Our tour of Spain with Cellar Tours was phenomenal! We are experienced travelers, and Genevieve is the absolute best! We are amazed at every aspect of our trip. The wine visits are special, with special people who truly care about the experience. The hotels are the best and our driver always was respectful and fun. There is no detail that is missed. We need to be gluten-free for medical reasons, and every meal and food opportunity was amazing and GF! Wow! Even the pintxos tour with Eski was flawless! Cellar Tours is a 15 on a 10-point scale!

Luxury wine tour from Madrid to Bilbao

We are home, mostly recovered and catching up as best we can. So let me respond to your request.

First, we had a marvelous time. We were extremely lucky with the weather throughout and your planning was perfect. As you implied, after a day of breakfast, wine tastings with assorted snacks and fabulous lunches , dinner was either skipped or very light. Roberto was a marvelous driver, ambassador and companion; he kept us on track and made sure all of our needs were met. He is a complete professional.

The accommodations were perfect and luxurious. My wife particularly enjoyed the spa and pool at Castillo Termal. Palacio Salamaniego is a jewel box of luxury. The staff was the best.

The restaurants were amazing (food and wine). I would readily return to all. We were treated like VIPs. Not only is the presentation at Jose Maria Asador not to be missed but the charm of the proprietor greeting all of his guests is a treat.

Leticia gave us a marvelous tour of Segovia and confirmed our arrangements at Jose Maria Asador. The tour of Laguardia would not have been as enjoyable without Javier and his enthusiasm. He is really special.

The wineries were well chosen and all different. The level of English of the guides was more than adequate. Mikel speaks perfect English and I enjoyed geeking out about wine with him. I particularly appreciated that these were not huge factory wineries but more intimate enterprises. Dominio De Cair was especially educational in a new and fun way (discovering the differences between French and American oak). Lunch at Valduero was excellent and generous.

I wish I had referred more often to the keepsake itinerary, particularly the glossary of food terms which is remarkably thorough and would have helped us through Andalucia.

In short, thank you for your efforts on our behalf. We will certainly keep you in mind for future adventures. Of course you can share our comments.

The Pares Balta winery in Penedes was wonderful, very friendly and really made us feel welcome. We had a very nice time. Wow, Arola was lots of fun, really interesting food – what an experience. Cal Xim was our favorite restaurant of them all. Food really fresh, honest, lovely. The owner was so happy – I got a tour of the kitchen and he gave us some wine and sent us home with some cherries and apricots from his garden. Lovely people. Most definitely would recommend Cellar Tours. Well organized and great choice of events. Our driver took very good care of us as well. We had a truly wonderful time. Thanks again.

The trip flowed extremely well

Terra Dominicata in Priorat had stunning views, nice restaurant (excellent meals), and the Hotel Palace in Barcelona had a classic location, cool feel, good breakfast. Lunch at Clos Figueras- So much good food, the paella was delicious. Pau Claris in Barcelona was fantastic! The octopus with raspberry and wasabi was such a clever combination. Our driver Pepe was wonderful. He was punctual, helpful, good conversation, friendly – very much enjoyed his company the entire trip. Costers del Siurana (Clos de l ‘Obac) was exceptional! Thank you for the opportunity to meet Carles! Clos Mogador- also Exceptional! Enjoyed going up into the vineyard. At Pares Balta, the caves are stunning and they put a lot of time into their cava. Mariona in Barcelona was amazing, organized a great tour of Gaudi. And chef Candido in Barcelona – AMAZING!!!!! My favorite tour. Candido knows so many people in that market. Learned a ton, enjoyed learning how to cook the recipes. I tried the rice at home. My rice needs a lot of work. Thank you for your time and really listening to all my likes – you did an amazing job.

Out of this world! Truly, we are so blessed to have had the privilege of being a guest of Cellar Tours!

Years of travel and reading guide books still would not have held a candle to the carefully, thoughtfully planned tour. Much consideration was given to the guests from interests to activity level to food & wine preferences. Truly no detail was overlooked. Each of the wineries was very different and special. It was great to make the drive because you could better appreciate how the changing landscape influences the vines/wines. We know there is no way in the world we would have known where to go, have found the bodegas or have been welcomed into the fold or have been given access to such special and fabulous wines. It’s the single most, amazing, special, fabulous, memorable vacation anyone could take! I do think it is unparalleled in the design, the scope the details, the balance, the quality.

Great memories abound from a variety of experiences of Northern Spain. My tasting cup “overfloweth!” Our guide, Pepe (Jose) was absolutely perfect! Great driver, too! They are the true ambassadors of Spain! Very happy that we were able to cover so much of all three wine regions. Loved the passion they all exhibited for their land, history, and winemaking. Many luscious wines were savored at all the private tours and tastings. Private tasting is the only way to be introduced to great wines. We all will recommend your tours with the highest of praise and already have! Hope we can plan another tour with Cellars Tours sometime soon perhaps in the Loire Region of France.

Hi Genevieve, we have just returned to Madrid after six very enjoyable days. Roberto was a skilled and safe driver throughout; we think he is the best driver we have had. The wine hosts were all excellent. The host from Roda was a standout because she was so personable and such a lovely person. The hotels were all excellent. We really loved our stay at Hotel Palacio Samaniego best of all. The breakfast at Castilla Termal Monasterio was very memorable; the selection of food was extraordinary. The tour guides that we met on our trip were also excellent.

I think is a nice cross-section of varietals and bodegas but the people/families behind the wines are what really make them stand out. I’m not sure if they treat everyone the way they treated us but we really felt special. We know there is no way in the world we would have known where to go, have found the bodegas or have been welcomed into the fold or have been given access to such special and fabulous wines. My regret: that I didn’t bring suitcases of the wines home to the states!
