The Alhambra in Granada

The ancient Moorish Kingdom of Granada awaits! It’s a pleasant two-hour drive east, so sit back and relax. Arrive to Granada in the late morning and enjoy some free time to explore this seductive town on your own. Don’t miss the mythical tapas at Chikito, enjoy them al fresco on their terraced area. And a visit to the Hamman is very pampering, you can take a relaxing steam bath with Chiromassage and Aromatherapy and get a special treatment like the Al-Hakam chocolate massage with mint and orange or the Silk Road exfoliation.

In the early evening, your excellent local art guide will meet you and take you on an unforgettable private tour of the ancient Moorish citadel, the Alhambra. You will learn all about the city’s fascinating history, from the time the Moors gave Granada the name Karnattah (both these names mean pomegranate which is Granada’s heraldic symbol). The Alhambra is a fortress dating back to the 11th century with many later additions. Listen to anecdotes and romantic tales as you walk through the romantic Patio de los Leones and the Salón de Embajadores. This is a very memorable tour and experience. Dinner tonight then is at the refined Arriaga, our fave eatery in town with views over Granada and the majestic Sierra Nevada. There is so much to see and enjoy and our local art guide will show you the “best of” on an entertaining walking tour. You’ll explore the delightful Reales Alcazares including the medieval gardens, the unique Giralda bell tower of the sublime cathedral, and Casa de Pilatos (the capricious Renaissance and Mudéjar palace still owned by the Dukes of Medinaceli). For lunch then we highly suggest the Santa Cruz quarter, a colorful, lively neighborhood with hugely atmospheric eateries and wine bars.

You will head to the noble town of Jerez de la Frontera, the epicenter of the Sherry Triangle. You’ll start your Sherry Explorations with a visit to Bodegas Tradición, which houses a wonderful cellar and art collection (with Goyas and hand painted tiles by Picasso when he was a boy).
