Adegas Galegas Winery Guide

Winery Overview

Although young, the Adegas Galegas winery, established in 1995, has successfully intertwined tradition with exceptional quality. One of their most renowned wine labels is Veigadares, a remarkable Albariño, celebrated for its exquisite taste and captivating wine labels. Situated in Pontevedra, adjacent to the majestic Rio Mino, Adegas Galegas finds itself in the southernmost part of the enchanting Rias Baixas region. The winery resides in a picturesque landscape adorned with verdant emerald mountains, where the climate is refreshingly cool. Its proximity to the ocean ensures a humid terrain, receiving abundant rainfall, thus creating an idyllic habitat for the growth of the Albariño grape.

Adegas Galegas is driven by its unwavering commitment to producing wines of unrivaled quality and distinct character. Initially established to revive winemaking traditions, the winery incorporates the use of skin and must in maceration while seamlessly integrating modern techniques for improved efficiency and control. Spanning 100 acres of land, the winery cultivates and harvests approximately 300,000 kilos of grapes annually, a testament to their dedication to excellence.

The winery proudly upholds traditional Galician viticulture practices, ensuring the vines tower above the damp ground, basking in the sun’s warm embrace. Adegas Galegas meticulously selects grapes of exceptional quality, with a particular focus on their flagship Veigaders brand. Their vineyards boast an array of white varieties such as Albariño, Treixadura, and Loureiro, as well as esteemed Galician red varieties like Brancellao, Espadeiro, Caío Tinto, and Mencia.

The Albariño grape reigns supreme in prevalence and exceptional quality among these exquisite varieties. This remarkable grape gives rise to white wines with a distinctive aromatic profile, striking a harmonious balance and delighting the palate with its rich flavors. Adegas Galegas has undertaken extensive research, revealing that indigenous yeasts contribute significantly to the captivating aromas found in their Albariño wines. The winery has also ventured into organic cultivation, implemented modern cooling systems, and constructed an underground cellar, further enhancing its commitment to innovation and sustainability.
