Private Wine Tour in Penedès

Introducing Our Private Wine Tour in Penedès

This private three-day Penedès wine tour is for wine lovers visiting Barcelona who want to explore the region properly, with private Cava and Corpinnat visits, two nights among the vineyards, and chauffeur-driven touring. Along the way, you’ll taste both sparkling and still wines, enjoy Catalan dining and finish with a farewell lunch on the coast in Sitges.

Barcelona has a fabulously privileged location: the Mediterranean Sea on one side, mountains around it, and the Penedès wine country less than an hour south.

The ancient wine region of Penedès has been producing wine since Phoenician times. The region’s sparkling-wine reputation grew rapidly from the late 19th century, after Josep Raventós of Codorníu produced the first bottle of what became Cava in 1872. Freixenet followed in the early 20th century, launching its first cava in 1914. The classic Cava blend combines Macabeo, Xarel·lo and Parellada; Chardonnay is also authorized, while Macabeo is known as Viura in other Spanish wine regions, including Rioja.

In recent decades, Penedès has also built a reputation for premium red wines, led by Familia Torres’s Mas La Plana and Jean Leon’s Vinya La Scala. The region ranges from enormous Modernista cellars to small family-owned wineries, set among olive groves, peach orchards and almond trees. Its cuisine is Mediterranean, with a focus on seafood, fresh vegetables, olive oil and wine.

Signature journey

Your Three-Day Penedès Itinerary

Highlights include six winery visits, two nights at five-star Hotel Mastinell, chauffeur-driven touring, Catalan dining and a final lunch in Sitges. Your final hotels, restaurants and winery visits will be selected and confirmed in advance in your personal proposal.

  1. Day 1Barcelona-Penedès

    Mirador de las Caves

    Long-Aged Corpinnat and Montserrat Views

    Mirador de las Caves

    • Overnight at 5* Hotel Mastinell
    • Lunch with wine
    • Luxury Mercedes with driver

Your chauffeur-driven luxury Mercedes will collect you in Barcelona (hotel, airport, nearby coastal town, or port) this morning. And you will head south to the gorgeous Penedès wine country, about a one-hour drive.

Your first visit will be to Celler Kripta, formerly Agustí Torelló Mata; this is where the prestigious Kripta is made, best known for its unique amphora-shaped bottle. After a private tour, enjoy a tasting of its long-aged Corpinnat sparkling wines, including Kripta. Next, you’ll move on to Llopart; the family has made sparkling wine since 1887 and has bottled under Corpinnat since 2019. It makes for a fascinating tour, finishing with some of their finest bubbles.

Lunch will follow at the beautiful Mirador de les Caves in the town of Subirats. The setting is stunning, and you will not be disappointed by the striking views of Montserrat. Here, the specialty is the barbecue. Everything you can imagine is perfectly barbecued, with a mouth-watering, authentic wood flavor. It’s just a 25-minute drive to Vilafranca del Penedès. Enjoy a stroll around town, taking in the historic Basilica of Santa Maria and shopping in the gourmet shops. Or, if you are feeling more energetic, you can pedal through the vines on a vineyard bike tour.

After this, your chauffeur will transfer you to Hotel Mastinell, right in the heart of the vines. This multi-award-winning hotel is quite unforgettable, with architecture inspired by bottles resting in a riddling rack and a trencadís roof that pays tribute to Antoni Gaudí.

  2. Day 2Touring in Wine Country

    En Rima Gastronomic Space

    Top Reds of the Penedès

    En Rima Gastronomic Space

    • Overnight at 5* Hotel Mastinell
    • Lunch with wine
    • Luxury Mercedes with driver

Once you’ve enjoyed your breakfast, your chauffeur will greet you with a smile, ready to guide you to the picturesque Pares Balta estate, where the day’s adventure begins. Your passionate hosts will enthusiastically lead you through a personalized VIP tour, explaining their immensely successful organic viticultural practices. You will then taste their range, which includes some excellent still whites and exceptional cavas, but the show’s star here is their cult red wine Absis.

Leaving the Parés Baltà estate behind, a scenic 20-minute drive through the lush landscape leads you to Albet i Noya, where the steep terraces carved into the Western slopes of the Ordal Mountains provide optimum ripening for the winery’s organically cultivated vines. Here you will learn about their organic wines and enjoy a private VIP tour of the immaculate cellar before sitting for a tasting, including their prized Lignum Red.

Lunch follows at Cal Xim, where traditional, seasonal Catalan cuisine is lovingly prepared. The owner/chef, a personal friend of Cellar Tours, will greet you and, time permitting, will lead you on a short tour of his extraordinary wine cellar. A huge wood-fired grill takes center stage, cooking local game and vegetables to perfection. The lamb and pig cheeks are also highly recommended, and all washed down with more sublime Penedès wines from their cracking selection. Before your chauffeur drops you back to your plush abode, wander around the village after lunch.

Back at your hotel, you will have time to visit the onsite winery and sample their wines before getting ready for dinner.

The En Rima Gastronomic Space is a captivating concept; beyond the luscious masterpieces in every dish, you will appreciate its dedication to Slow Food and Km 0. Such delicacies may include: “Beetroot with Duck Truffle,” “Quail Marinade with prawns and crunchy vegetables,” or “Black Penedès Rooster with Cabernet reduction, hazelnuts, and dried peach,” all of which pair expertly with wines from the hotel’s winery – exquisite!

  3. Day 3Penedès – Sitges – Barcelona

    Gramona winery

Convivial Wines and Paella in Sitges

    Gramona winery

    • Return to Barcelona
    • Lunch with wine
    • Luxury Mercedes with driver

This morning, you will start with a private tour and tasting at Gramona. The visit traces the family’s history and its pioneering work with long-aged sparkling wine, from its origins during the phylloxera era to its present role as a founding Corpinnat producer.

Then it’s a short drive to Nadal. The family estate dates to 1510, while the first Nadal sparkling wine was produced in 1943. Visit the vineyards and underground cellar before tasting Corpinnat sparkling and still wines, paired with selections chosen for your private visit.

We then have a wonderful farewell lunch prepared for you at Fragata in Sitges. You will quickly realize why Sitges is called the “Jewel on the Mediterranean”: glistening waters lap the pristine shore, and the palm-lined boulevard and pretty, narrow streets are idyllic. Your table awaits on Fragata’s terrace, close to the beach and beneath the church of Sant Bartomeu i Santa Tecla. Fragata has proudly served some of the area’s best paella and seafood dishes for over 50 years.

After lunch, take a walk around Sitges before your chauffeur transfers you to Barcelona. Drop-off can be at your hotel, the port or the airport, timed to your onward plans.
