Barolo itself is a delightful wine hamlet, crowned with a castle and Grinzane Cavour is another village with a stunning castle where the annual truffle auction takes place. The region is beautiful year round, but autumn time is when the Langhe explodes into a symphony of colors, with undulating hills blanketed in orange, red and yellow leaves. Autumn is also the season for white truffle (black summer truffle is available in other months), and the restaurants serve rich risottos and homemade pasta with hedonistic tartufi.

From Turin, you will drive south towards the beautiful hamlet of Serralunga d’Alba. Arrive at your first wine estate of the day, for example to Massolino. Making their flagship Classic Barolo since the early 1900s, this boutique cellar is a treat to visit and take in the views of the vineyards while tasting.
Next up is a visit to a second high-end small estate such as the marvelous Roagna, one of our favorite wine families in Italy! Enjoy a tour of the stunning vineyards, and the small cellar and let Luca Roagna passionately tell you about their wines including unique novelties such as his white wine made with the black Nebbiolo grape. Sit down to a home-cooked lunch with the winemaker, and indulge in fabulous food and wine on this unforgettable Piemonte wine tour.
After saying goodbye to your charming hosts, visit Grinzane Cavour’s castle and Enoteca wine shop. Enjoy some free time to see the wine museum and perhaps pick up some great Barolos you can’t find at home. This castle is also a great photo op in Piemonte. Late afternoon transfer back to your hotel in Turin.

Everything was perfect - spaced nicely
Our guide at Gigi Rosso was great and very knowledgeable. It was nice to visit this winery first because she gave us a good primer course on the differences between Barbera, Barbaresco, Barolo, Barolo Riserva, etc. It was also a standout moment to be able to taste the vinegar they produce – we were saddest that we couldn’t bring the vinegar home with us, though the wine was fantastic. At Roagna, Luca was fantastic. It’s so great to meet younger people who care so much about wine and winemaking. Dinner with him was such a treat. His wine was great too and we also got to try some different products that aren’t exported to the United States. I couldn’t believe we tasted a ’98 Barolo Vietti Riserva – what a highlight. Their winery was our favorite of the day, not only because we liked the wines the most, but also, their house/production facility has such history and we thought it was so cool how it was built in the middle of town into the mountainside. Really just incredible.
