Beaujolais Wine Region Map
The Beaujolais wine region covers over 50km from the pretty rolling hills just south of Mâcon to the flatter lands north of Lyon, therefore located directly south of Burgundy. It is naturally divided in two by the Nizerand River; the Crus and Beaujolais Villages to the north of the river and Beaujolais and Beaujolais Nouveau being found to the south. The granite base with sandy clay soils dominates in the north, and is where the Gamay grape expresses itself so exceptionally; fresh and fruity and all too quaffable. Hence why it is here that the Crus and Beaujolais Villages are found.
A trip through the Beaujolais wine region is a real treat for wine lovers and gourmands alike, with so many fabulous eateries on hand and a stone’s throw from the gourmet epicenter, Lyon. Please find more information on touring this inviting region with our Beaujolais Wine Tour and French Wine Odyssey.
