Puglia Wine Region Map
Puglia is an enchanting, sun-splashed region in Southern Italy’s “heel,” known for its Caribbean-style white sand beaches and dazzling turquoise waters. You’ll find stunning, ancient coastal towns with layers of history and food traditions like wonderful Polignano a Mare; picturesque whitewashed villages like Alberobello with the distinctive “Trullo” houses that look like they belong in Lord of the Rings; and Baroque jewels like Lecce which is often referred to as “Florence of the south.” And then there is the wine! This is the land of “Primitivo,” a cousin of Zinfandel, used for making rich and velvety red wines. Other exciting red varietals here include Negroamaro and Nero di Troia, not to mention Aleatico and Bombino Nero. The white wines from Puglia are also deliciously bodied and round, made with varietals like Verdeca, Greco Bianco, and Bombino Bianco.
