Cuzcurrita

The chief calling cards of Cuzcurrita del Rio Tiron, 51km west of Logrono, are its spectacular 14th-century castle and quaint medieval bridge over the river Tiron. A picturesque part of the Rioja Alta sub-region, the village’s pretty streets are full of glorious mansions that throng with the ghosts of Rioja’s pioneers. Cuzcurrita was an important walled village during the Middle Ages – one of the earliest references was in 1062, in a royal document belonging to Sancho de Navarra. It was a feudal estate in 1367 under Enrique II of Castilla. Today, visitors marvel at the San Miguel Church, built in the 18th century, a national monument since 1978.
