Samaniego

Situated at the foot of the Cantabrian mountain range, in the Rioja Alavesa sub-region, Samaniego is a perfect example of a picturesque Riojan winemaking village. Its renown, as you would expect, flows from the numerous wineries that flank the village – Rioja Alavesa is celebrated for producing some of Rioja’s most elegant, sublime, sought-after wines. However, even teetotalers will enjoy strolling through Samaniego’s pretty streets – the Church of Asunción, originally a fortress, was built in the 15th century and today remains Samaniego’s most famous landmark. The Samaniego Palace, an ancestral house of the 17th century converted into a hotel, also draws the crowds.
