Raventos I Blanc Winery Guide

Winery Overview

Raventós i Blanc, situated in the scenic Penedès region of Catalonia, Spain, is a renowned winery that has carved a niche for itself in the world of sparkling wines. With a rich history dating back to the 15th century, the estate is recognized for its unwavering commitment to quality and its dedication to producing excellent sparkling wines.

The birth of Raventós i Blanc can be traced back to the mid-19th century when the Raventós family embarked on their winemaking journey. However, in the late 20th century, under the visionary leadership of Josep Maria Raventós i Blanc, the winery underwent a significant transformation.

In the early 1980s, Raventós i Blanc made a groundbreaking decision to focus exclusively on producing high-quality sparkling wines using the traditional method. This bold move set them apart, as they became one of the few wineries in the Penedès region dedicated solely to crafting high-end cava wines.

The estate took another significant step in 2012 when it withdrew from the Cava appellation, seeking to establish its classification, Conca del Riu Anoia. This decision was driven by its pursuit of elevating quality and highlighting the unique terroir of its vineyards.

Today, Raventós i Blanc is hailed as a trailblazer in the world of sparkling wines, recognized for their meticulous vineyard management, organic and biodynamic practices, and an unwavering pursuit of excellence. With each bottle they produce, Raventós i Blanc tells the story of a winery deeply rooted in tradition yet unafraid to push boundaries and redefine the possibilities of Penedès sparkling wines. As a result, it is considered by many to be one of the best cavas in the region, in the same strata as Agusti Torello and Juve y Camps.

The impressive “Milenario” Oak Tree, located in the center of the Chateaux-style estate, symbolizes Raventos I Blanc. It symbolizes their family’s 500 years of experience and passion within the wine industry. The Raventos winery is well worth a visit. However, it has a very exclusive feeling, as they don’t open to the general public (whereas Codorniu receives hundreds of people per day, just across the street).
